Why I Chose to Host my Blog on Wix

If you've thought about starting a blog, you've probably asked yourself the question, "Where should I put my blog?" I'm sure you've seen the biggest options: Wordpress, Wix, Blogger, and Squarespace. I previously had a blog on wordpress.com and when I decided to restart blogging, I initially thought I do it on wordpress.org. After research and asking myself what my purpose is for having this blog, I decided the wix.com is the best choice for me. And I'll tell you why.

Here's the short answer:

BECAUSE I WANTED TO.

Now keep reading if you want the long answer.

I work for a marketing agency and trust me, I believe that the best, most professional space to create a blog is on wordpress.org.

Why Wordpress is KING.

1. Wordpress will let you own your own content and you have full control over it. Since I'm on Wix, they technically own my content. Say Wix is go to go bankrupt one day, what would happen to my site? I'm not really sure.

2. You are open to grow your business/ page on Wordpress. The plugins and extensions are great for Wordpress. This is where you want to be if you are looking to monetize your blog.

3. It's so widely used. Most blogs (at least the legit ones) use Wordpress. So it makes sense that you should too.

So again you might be asking, why did I chose Wix? As easy as wordpress (and it's users) claim it is, there will be a learning curve. It can be confusing to know the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org. The .com option is indeed easy, just as easy as Wix in my opinion. But if you go the .org route (which is what I was discussing above) you will need to understand a basic level of coding and download their program onto your computer.

I have taken web design classes, I know the basics. But, to be honest, that was several years ago and I'm not eager to learn wordpress. I'm busy! I'm also working on a VERY old Macbook that doesn't like downloading new programs, which I'd have to do for wordpress.org.

Additionally, I asked myself, "What's my goal with this blog?" I'm not here to make money. I'm blogging for my own personal enjoyment. This was really the main reason I decided that Wix was where I wanted to be. If I was going to try to turn this into my main source of income, it would be a different story. I'll welcome any opportunities to make a little bit of pocket change (Hi, I'm here and ready to post affiliate links!) but I really am only looking for a creative outlet that will make me happy.

So there you have it. I did the research and made the decision that I think is best for me. If you're starting a blog my advice is:

  1. Do the research.

  2. Compare options.

  3. Get advice from bloggers you admire.

  4. Ask yourself what the goal of your blog is.

I feel like I may get feedback arguing why I should have gone with Wordpress, so before I go I'm leaving this reminder:
